In my office at home I have a small TV and unfortunately it’s not hooked to cable or a DVD player. It’s sole use is to watch videos, which I don’t own many of to begin with. But going through my small collection I stumbled upon a gem: Nick Park of Aardman Animation’s “Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers”. The insane range of expressions Park is able to convey through these goofy lovable characters is amazing. Wallace’s dog, Gromit, for instance, doesn’t even speak but we know exactly how he feels in each scene.

Sometimes you just get so busy you forget that there’s a lot of cool stuff in your backyard (bear with me). I think I’ve already mentioned that I’m not a morning person and today is no exception. I had an 8:30am class that requires me to be out the door by 7:30am in order to be there on time. By the transitive property means I’ve got to be up by 7 at the latest which all in all takes an act of God. I’m lucky that it’s a class that I enjoy so getting up isn’t THAT bad.

One of my biggest loves is anime. Growing up in the 80’s exposed me to a vast amount of Japanese television that was dubbed into French. It was quite a culture shock to move to the states in the early 90’s and find that American children had not grown up on the same style of television that I had. There are huge cultural and stylistic differences in anime that I’m sure you are well aware of. One of the biggest differences for me was the censorship of subject matter and graphic depiction. I always believed that anime conveyed well thought out and concise ideas, however as we all know the states are sticklers for what is socially acceptable. From funny Saturday morning cartoon type anime like DragonBall Z to more serious anime like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

I can’t seem to get enough of The Fashion. My friend Mike DMND had them playing in his Myspace profile and I was hooked. The band has been popping up more and more around the Internet and are currently up for vote in mtvU‘s freshman artist contest (our friends in Shwayze are too so go over and vote). They released their self titled EP last year in Denmark and are slated for a US release this year. If your one of the lucky few going to SXSW they will be playing March 14th in Texas and March 17th in New York. I can’t really put my finger on why this band excites me. Maybe its the infectious chorus or the catchy dance beat but it’s great that they are being embraced by not only the indie rock crowd but in heavy remixes by the DJ set as well.

I can’t really remember if I’ve ever watched “The Cell“, which by all accounts was a failure at the box office but all together a great concept. “The Fall” is yet another film by famed director Tarsem (so famous he only has a first name). The basic premise consists of a little girl in a hospital with a broken collar bone who meets a bedridden man who starts telling her a fantastical story which reflects his state of mind. As time goes by fiction and reality start to intertwine in this uplifting epic fantasy. The movie is slated to hit the states in April in limited release.

Blow Up has become sort of a past time for me since my move out here to San Francisco. My first experience was with Steve Aoki. In my opinion it could only be described as a massive uncontrolled sweat fest dripping with well dressed “hipster kids” and electro (I enjoyed every minute of it). The monthly club night has turned into a weekly adventure over the past five months for the youth of the bay area. Every now and then I enjoy playing photographer for the event and it’s always interesting to see the kids that come out. DJ-wise the events have welcomed some notoriously awesome DJs. This week we enjoyed a set by Rapture drummer Vito Roccoforte as well as the infamous Missing Toof DJs Basura and Diasater.
