Before I go on a tirade about Microsoft’s new program Songsmith, let me just state that I am fully aware of the ever changing times, and how much technology has influenced the way we create, market, and consume music.  That being said, I still don’t think that it’s OK to completely remove the creative process that occurs when someone sits down with their guitar or piano, or whatever instrument to write a song.

Pepsi Launches Rebranding – Nobody Cares

pepsi ad

Armin over at Brand New had a great in depth look at the massive, and all around expensive (1.2 billion dollars over the course of 3 years! Who says companies aren’t spending money on advertising?) rebranding of Pepsi. New York firm Arnell Group is responsible for the rebranding while TBWA\Chiat\Day handled print and television campaigns.  Over the holiday season I started seeing the new distinct wide mouth Pepsi logo displayed all over print and video ads. The new wide mouth design is actually inspired by a vintage version of the logo. On a design front, I think the ad’s, NOT the new logo are very well executed and attention grabbing.  The subtle change to the Pepsi logo goes almost unnoticed, and boy are they trying to get your to notice. I found myself asking, “Does any of this really amount to anyone wanting to go out and advocate, spread the word, or even ponder at what’s new with Pepsi?”.

In my opinion, having something like a blog, podcast, or twitter for any company is a great way to give some insight on who you are and what you do on both business, and social levels. If you’ve ever read my posts in the past about W+K, you already know that I’m a huge fan of their work. Between Jason and I, we pretty much read all the blogs by the various offices of W+K around the world. Each blog has it’s own flavor and charm that lends to being able to have glimpses into the lives of the incredible creative individuals there.

It’s more than just sneakers: An interview with Jeff Staple.

Jeff Staple

Jeff Staple as far as we are concerned is one of the most interesting entrepreneur and figures in street wear and street wear culture. He has always maintained a steadfast commitment to follow his vision despite the fickleness of the industry. While other brands were eager to cash in on whatever trends were popular, Staple Design stood by their commitment to creating simple, intelligent design pieces. I think its really important for people to understand the history behind both the brand he has created and his design studio. I find his ideas and the execution of said ideas are a case study in both building and maintaining a interesting brand.

St. Germain

I met up with a few friends in the west end to have a few cocktails. Its sort of our low key spot, my favorite bartender introduced me to the joys of elderflower liqueur; namely St-Germain. I’m not that into designer liqueur, nor am I really that well versed in them, but I was impressed. Its made from elder-flowers from the foothills of the French Alps. Its hard to really describe the flavor, its like a lychee and citrus fruit combined. The elder-flowers are handpicked and are delicately distilled to preserve flavor. Its officially now my signature drink; its a little pricey though but well worth it. The only thing is, I can’t seem to find it locally. I’ve only seen it at a couple places and I haven’t seen it in stores. I’m trying to find some for the holidays coming up. In the right hands this brand could be huge. Anyway, if your lucky enough to find it, definitely check it out.
