Gabe The Brooklyn Circus

Yesterday I found myself with a huge chunk of time (once again) and set out to visit The Brooklyn Circus. I’d been meaning to stop by since we posted about their sale and party last month and I was excited to check it out. Gabe was there and he was kind enough to bring me up to speed on what the brand had in store.

Thrasher TV – Making Money Never Goes Out of Style

I’d like to reiterate the statement – MAKING MONEY NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE! We were introduced to Thrasher, a company that handles a mutual fund targeted at individuals in their early teens to late twenties when Heron Preston was featured in an ad campaign for the company. Created and managed by Khalid Jones, James Perkins and Megumi Yamamoto, the company has taken a very forward approach to at times a very boring concept. The company operates in a very stylized fashion from the clothes Khalid and James wear (probably the most dapper chaps I’ve ever seen) to the humorous jabs they take at the fiscal establishment. Thrasher TV is a daily to weekly video spot of everything financial (ie- the news of companies, financial education, what the meaning of the cryptic symbols on stock tickers are and how and why you should be investing your money). I recently emailed Megumi and she explained to me how easy it is to get invested in a mutual fund. So I decided to sign up! Never too late or early to start putting money away for whatever the future may hold.

Steve Nash – Training Day

Steve Nash’s story revolves around the fact that he is a Canadian point guard for the Phoenix Suns, but that’s not the point of this post: He has accomplished two very uncommon things in the last few months that were of some interest to us. First he teamed up with Nike to release the upcoming “Trash Talk” shoe. Cleverly named, it is made of nearly 100% recycled materials that Nike plants usually discard. It will be released to coincide with Earth Day in April. The second part, and what I think is the kicker, is the ad campaign Nike wanted to use to showcase the basketball star in his off-season from shooting hoops. Turns out Nash is extremely gifted at playing soccer as well; he had the potential to go pro but chose the NBA instead.

casette tape

Muxtape, not a misnomer, is a site that has been making the rounds rather quickly on the ‘ole interweb. Simple premise: you can create a mixtape that has it’s own unique URL that can be shared with friends and played anywhere. Here’s my mixtape, go on and try it out.

They Came by The Hundreds!

The Hundreds Grand Opening

They waited up to 4 hours for The Hundreds‘ new store in San Francisco on Post St. The turnout exemplified the dedicated support that the Los Angeles brand has built over the last few years. Patrons from all over the bay area lined up despite the slow moving procession and late opening. Passersby were more than intrigued as to what was going on as the crowd took up most of the sidewalk. The store had limited edition collaborative apparel from notable names such as Bennie Gold and Hieroglyphics. The interior of the store sports a high concept cave-feel that, Bobby revealed, was inspired by films like Lost Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Hook and Peter Pan. Unfortunately cameras were not allowed inside the store, but I would highly recommend checking out the store even if you aren’t into street wear. Here are some photos from the event. (For future reference-please ASK to use our photos)

HUF SF

Mega Huf/Blackscale

After the hoopla over at The Hundreds store Alicia and I headed over HUF to check out how the guys there were doing. As usual the selection of gear from HUF was up to par (I still don’t know which pair of sneakers I want to pick up). Mega (Blackscale/HUF) was grindin’ as usual as he’s been very busy traveling between San Francisco and LA as HUF prepares to open up a new store. The new store will be opening in April (more details will follow). Mega’s Blackscale line has been flying off the shelves but I was lucky enough to pick up a shirt from the new line which has imagery inspired by masonic symbols. HUF as a whole is also undergoing changes as they’ve updated their site and stopped use of the old etch a sketch logo for a cleaner appearance.
