The Social Hustle

 The Social Hustle

I expected to have a quiet work day at the house yesterday but found myself doing the “social hustle” around Hartford. It’s been cool being home and sizing up the “scene,” or lack thereof, in Hartford. Downtown has always had an identity crisis; attracting and alientanting various demographics and individuals from really partaking in anything hip or, for that matter, fun. Being away and seeing how major cities like San Francisco, LA, New York, and Boston get their party on has really made me look at Hartford with a critical eye. I’ve been spotted around town with my camera snapping away, taking notes and doing a little recon. This kid is back and the family and I have some aces up our sleeve.

The Shape of Things to Come

mimi cook

This past Saturday I had the chance to catch up with Mimi Cook, who just happens to be Apple’s Creative Director, over lunch. We went to the Americano Cafe near the pier in San Francisco. You couldn’t have asked for a better day- beautiful weather, warm breeze, salt air from the ocean and of course lunch with a very amazing woman. My talks with Mimi are always great because she’s such a wealth of information and inspiration. We discussed things I’m currently working on like the complete rehaul of The Retrospective going into effect in the near future. We also covered some new tidbits I’m keeping under the radar. I’m always impressed with her ability to discern the scope of someone’s talents as she has been directing me to other creatives that will be spotlighting here.

This is what happens when you get on Justice‘s bad side. Holy Crap! This video is beyond intense, reminds me a lot of The Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up” music video. I now have a healthy fear of Justice.

On the Street Fashion – San Francisco

I ran into this dapper chap while on my way home from a long night of shooting. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get a full shot of his suit, but his look just oozed with cool. The James Dean hair style coupled with the jet black sunglasses is a great touch.

Blow UP – PLASTISCINES, MISSINGTOOF, JEFFRODISIAC

Plastiscines

Nothing like  beautiful stylish Parisian women brandishing even equally lovely guitars to start off a Saturday night. Hailing from Paris, France, the Plastiscines dazzled the crowd with their Ramones-esq style of punk rock. Their live show really won me over; they were fast, energetic, and just brought it hard. Oh and please let me geek out here- any band that uses Orange halfstacks, Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, Rickenbacker bass, and my favorite Epiphone Sheraton II are A-okay in my book (alright, geeking moment over). Their debut Album is entitled LP1 so bust down to your record shop and pick it up LIKE RIGHT NOW!
