Good Things are coming

Wow, this has been such a busy week; Jason and I are both battling the perils of midterms that are soon to come. Anyway, on to more important matters at hand. Since the redesign of the website we’ve gotten some great feedback and have been moving forward to really make this site worth coming back to and reading. Here’s some quick news about what’s going on around here:

On average the site is getting about 1,500 hits per day and readers are spending around 5 minutes here which, in website context, is huge! We’re slowly moving up in both our Technorati and Google standings. We’d like to thank Trevor (DJ SKEET SKEET) for throwing us a link which always helps us out in the blog sphere. Currently we’ve got a few interviews underway that should be showing up soon including: Heron Preston, Young Global (My Global Hustle) and hopefully, if we can get this coordinated right, Jon Phenom (Hay Fam Show).

A Moment of Clairty – Mimi Cook

Mimi Cook

One of my big personal initiatives for 2008 is to become more entrenched in the design and marketing community. There’s nothing like getting your face out there and rubbing elbows with whom may one day be your peers. As I’m getting closer to completing my BFA in graphic design at the Academy of Art I’ve decided to seek out working creatives and pick at their brain to get a better understanding of the industry at large.

Oh My Deer

When I ran into Chiara’s work I was blown away to say the least. Being wildly imaginative and visually alarming they stop you in your tracks. Women with antlers, secret messages to secret lovers (apparently her works are graphic message to a boy named Ilka), and lucha libre ravens. Chiara Bautista is a thrity one year old graphic designer currently living in Arizona. I had the chance to catch up with her via myspace and ask her about her influence and style; here’s what she had to say:

Jon Phenom is a LA-based, self taught, premium denim designer and stylist. Jon rolls with a diverse crowd of taste makers in the industry; he is not only designing his own line of jeans but styling for various brands as well as blogging his endeavors. Most recently he began production of several mini documentaries on industry figures giving the general audience a glimpse into the history of some of the most up and coming creatives today. The venture entitled “The Hay Fam Show” premiered it’s first episode on our favorite creative type Rickey Kim of the Evil Monito Intelligence Agency. I personally like the videos because they are reminiscent of the cool hunting spots. However, I think I like them more because the content he will be covering is very niche. Here is episode one of “Hey Fam” from Jon Phenom:

A few months back Jason gave me a heads up about the BKc. I have really enjoyed their fresh take on street wear and haute couture. This Thursday they will be having a shindig at their SF store to showcase new products. I’d recommend stopping by and checking it out.
