Before I go on a tirade about Microsoft’s new program Songsmith, let me just state that I am fully aware of the ever changing times, and how much technology has influenced the way we create, market, and consume music.  That being said, I still don’t think that it’s OK to completely remove the creative process that occurs when someone sits down with their guitar or piano, or whatever instrument to write a song.

Pop Music Will Never Be Low Brow

Lately, it seems like more and more artists are going above and beyond when it comes to making music videos, and personally I really can’t complain.  When I first heard “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga, I wasn’t overly impressed by the electro/pop star in the making, but over the past week or so, her sound has grown on me.  Then I saw her mini movie/music video called “The Fame”,which is basically a mash-up of several songs off her debut album that shares the same title.  I feel like Lady Gaga’s mini movie is comparative to  Justice’s “Stress” video, except with way more estrogen.  Her album drops October 7th.

A new music video for Gnarls Barkely’s second single off the second album, The Odd Couple released recently.  The avant-garde video was directed by the 2008 Music Video Director of the Year, Chris Milk, and lives up to the high expectations.  When I first watched the video last night,  I proceeded to watch it two more times until I really understood and felt what was going on.  I don’t want to say too much about the video, because it really speaks for itself.  But I will say that,  as shocking as this video may seem at first, I think that anyone who has ever experienced a break up will feel for the bleeding heart singing on the table.

Alphanumeric Gets Literal

Alphanumeric’s “Gassed” tee blatantly depicts what the majority of us are experiencing while filling up at the local gas pump. I think that it’s always great to see art and design reflect the economic state of the government, even if it does mean that everyone is probably going broke. The shirt will be available as of August 1, or you can pre-order yours now at Robust Flavor for $26(or about 6 gallons of gas).

Retrosuperfuture, Love at First Sight

Retrosuperfuture

When it comes to sunglasses, I am extremely picky. So much so, that I would rather be sunglass-less throughout the entire summer than wear a pair that I am pretending to like. For the first time, I can say that I have found some sick shades that I will be more than happy to rock all summer long. Countinue Reading…
