Cuil – New search engine not so cool

August 3rd, 2008 by

Earlier this week Cuil, a new startup search engine run by ex-Google engineers, went live. Now before we really get into this remember that Google is the king when it comes to the search industry. They’ve taken out names like Altavista, Lycos, MSN, Yahoo and a score of others. Trying to compete with Google is an uphill battle and there’s a large probability that you may never even make out of the front gates. FYI- Cuil is pronounced “Cool” (don’t misspell it as “Culi” because you will get a NSFW surprise) crashed within the first few seconds of going live. Cuil boasts a large search index (amount of web pages it scours) than it’s competitor Google and the layout and results are pretty nifty, but they are far beyond the comprehensive and efficient search results of Google. Half of the time it doesn’t even bring up relevant or correct information. They were even touted as a Google killer yet, in my opinion, they barely make a roar.

Dior Homme 2009 Spring/Summer Collection

The new Dior Homme 2009 spring/summer line has a really fun 80’s look without seeming too loud or outlandish. There’s only one small problem, its tailored to fit guys who apparently have the bodies of 12 year old boys, are under some kind of hypnotic mind control and may have missed a few meals (give or take) during the week. Sporting a casual metro chic look , everything is accented by thin lines, subtle colors and a new trend in well placed men’s accessories (sunglasses, belts, bracelets, mocs, sneakers etc). The show not only showcases high fashion but a mix exclusive for the show by the notorious French duo Justice.

vegas blvd

Thursday night found Jason,  me and a gaggle of friends at Vegas BLVD in Hartford. My love of booty shaking beats can only be quenched there mainly because resident DJ Jefferey Perez spins (electro, disco, house, b-more) and from time to time I’ve dropped in. This Thursday people were exposed to the beginnings of Panther (Jason and I). Note: We shoot pictures of us and others having fun while were out. If we ask to shoot you it’s so that we can get your permission to use it here. If you say no, no big woop. If you say yes DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A PHOTO SHOOT! We don’t care if you don’t look good we will be the judge of that. With that said, onto some photos

Asher Roth – The Next Big White Rapper?

So I was checking out the Non Threatening Black Male blog and he hipped us to this clip of buzzed about artist Asher Roth. Personally I enjoyed this track; he doesn’t take himself too seriously and I can honestly say that this video feels like the dude is being himself. His flow is pretty good and he’s backed by some real serious guys- DJ Drama and Don Canon. My verdict? He’s white, from the suburbs, enjoys hip hop and he doesn’t suck. I wonder if he’s commercially viable or if he will make a splash in the underground nerd/hipster rap pool of artists. Check out the video and then go grab his mixtape, “The Green House Effect”asher roth cd

Got 200,000 dollars lying around and are able to make make a 10 percent deposit for a ticket? If so, you probably aren’t the type who knows the meaning of broke and can most likely make plans to sit next to other absorbingly rich people and fly on Virgin Galatic’s new White Knight 2. This week everyone and their mom, from the blogosphere to mainstream media, was invited out to the Mojave dessert to be reminded that space travel will inevitably be for the super rich and the super rich alone. Exactly when travelers are be able to take the flight and how safe and approved this will be hasn’t been determined yet. The concept of commercial space travel is jumping from the realm of science fiction to that of science fact. Check out the video for some clips from the press event.

Classic Nickelodeon Shows now on iTunes

Remember when watching Nick involved a big orange couch, cartoons not suited for small children, and live action TV shows without snotty nosed brat kids that wanted a record deal? I do! And I bet you do too. Nickelodeon has just rolled out some pretty sweet classic shows that haven’t been on the air that much, or will maybe never make it to DVD, but they will be available for any of your favorite Apple branded media players. I’m really hoping that Are You Afraid of the Dark? is included.  To this day, that show can still creep me out.
