Wrapped up with a Bow

From Marc Jacob’s infamous Louis Vuitton bunny ears to Blair Waldorf’s perfectly preppy headbands, hair accessories are one of the easiest and most on-trend ways to inject a bit of springtime fever to your look. And unlike spring makeup, which forces you to navigate through a haze of likely-to-be-unflattering colors that you’ll probably wear once before consigning to the back drawer of your bathroom cabinet, there’s instant gratification when trying on a peacock-feathered headband at Barneys or a Free People skinny-braided forehead tie.

Bow headbands are one of my weaknesses, and it seems they’re becoming a lot of other women’s too. Depending on how cute or cheeky you’re feeling you can go with a dainty felt bow from charming Etsy, or play dress up with a cream sequined number from Free People. And if you’re feeling particularly daring, go for one simply called “The Grandeur Headband” over at Forever21. Brig, one of the craziest hair stylists ever to appear on Bravo’s Shear Genius, has an especially covetable oversized bow that haunts my dreams.

If you’re not into the beauty-is-pain mantra (since headbands have a tendency to ache after a while) and are more Ali McGraw than Punky Brewster, try a head wrap or turban. Kate Moss wore a silver lame one to the MET Costume Gala last year, and even Carrie sported one in the SATC2 movie, so follow the lead of these brave pioneers and try on a paisley wrap from (yup) Forever 21, or go for the epic is-it-a-headband-or-is-it-a-turban look from Anthropoligie. Opening Ceremony, the criminally stylish NYC boutique, has a gorgeous Rike Fuerstein turban that’s equal parts vintage and modern and not for the faint of heart.
