DJ Lady Byrd

Just about every other time I go to some indie electro dance party, I find myself wondering (sometimes ranting), why there aren’t more successful female DJs in the game right now.  Like it or not, we are at the apex of “disco” making a newly renovated comeback and personally I’m all for it. I just figured that, by now, a few talented females would have made their way out of the woodwork.  Then with a stroke of nothing but pure luck (thank you internet) I found myself at the myspace page of DJ Lady Byrd.

As you can imagine, I was ecstatic.  Even more so once her live set from “Robot Rock in NYC” was streaming through my speakers.  It is truly a solid mix that touches on Daft Punk and Justice favorites but also some more classic disco tracks like Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me.”  Lady Byrd is also the founder and main contributor to her blog Who Needs Radio? where part of their mission statement is to “promote your sound and improve your ears”.  The blog is filled with a myriad of great playlists that are available to stream/download, and is dedicated to the artist and music itself’ rather than  making a profit from advertisements. Who Needs Radio? might be one of the best music based blogs I have seen in a while and I strongly suggest that you check it out.  DJ Lady Byrd appears to be at the top of her game right now and I can only hope that there are other talented ladies out there that are ready to break into the scene with full force.
