Sometimes you just have to follow your passion- as cliche as it sounds. Not a lot of people can act on all those small, and sometimes, innate desires . And not a lot of people have the willpower to try or experience something new. Maybe it’s the fear of ridicule and failure that stops us dead in our tracks. However, reaching out to other creatives through The Retrospective has lead me to strive towards experiencing fresh new things.

One of two friends, Paul Octavious and Chion Wolfhave, have inspired me to pick up a camera and start shooting. I am in no way close to yeilding comparison to Chion, but I’ve watched her persue her passion for photography and excel greatly at it. She currently works as a freelance photo journalist for WNPR in CT and other print publications.

Her ability to capture people in apparent candid or unintentional moments has always impressed me. Everyone always seems to feel at ease and/or unaware that they are being watched carefully through her lens. When I think of people who I want to be compared to or aspire to be on the same climbing mountain, Chion is definitely one of them. Check out her photo work by clicking here.

I thought that the concept for this video was really superb; the motion graphics and type are absolutely amazing. The song is from a German band, The Whitest Boy Alive, and the name of the track is “Golden Cage”.

The Man with the Iron Fist

Let’s do a little math shall we? Add one part directorial inspiration from Quinten Tarentino,  a third of Eli Roth’s producing and two parts martial arts knowledge and music scoring genius from RZA of the Wu Tang Clan and what do you get? A working idea for the new film titled “The Man with the Iron Fist”.

The news circulating around this project has a few people excited about the prospects of an all out martial arts flick. RZA will try his hand at script writing and he’ll be making his directorial on this film. A huge fan of all things chopsoky, RZA has also been the go to guy for new eclectic scores for films such as Kill Bill and Afro Samurai. This may be the one action movie all marital arts fan have been waiting for.

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of conducting an interview with Cleveland native turned Brooklyn resident K.i.D CuDi. If you don’t know who CuDi is, get out from whatever hole your living in and go to your local club/disco/hipster hangout and see if you don’t hear his summer jam “Day n Nite”. A genuinely nice, intelligent, and funny guy, we really enjoyed getting to know who the man on the moon really is and what he has in store. Thanks to Vaughn over at Peculiar Bliss for making this happen and subsequently putting up with our scheduling issues. Check out the interview after the jump.

Dee and Ricky

These two guys seem to be popping up more and more in my daily reading. I first caught sight of them when I was doing a stop over at the Sartorialist blog to get my style game up. I saw these peculiar, yet perfectly positioned, Lego jewelery accessories they were both sporting. On further investigation it turns out that the pieces were designed by these two brothers in New York. The Lego inspired pieces have traveled  far and wide from Marc Jacobs Fashion shows to Kanye West. I later realised that our good friend YG had run into them while out doing the social hustle in NY. These guys are on a serious grind as they are also 2/3rd of Jackson Swinton (a band that has been seen mingling with Busy P, Uffie and other various Ed Banger Records roster). Now the real question you should be asking is, when are we going to see a Dee & Ricky x The Retrospective collaboration?
