2009 has been a very busy year for music newcomer, Paloma Faith. The 24-year-old London crooner has gotten ears buzzing and folks talking about her unique brand of soul pop. Her debut album, Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful, twittered and soared into the UK’s top 10. So far, the album’s spawned two hit singles: the brash Stone Cold Sober and the stirring New York.
Faith’s background includes extensive training in the performing arts and even a stint as a magician’s assistant and burlesque dancer. She most recently provided guest vocals on the new Basement Jaxx album, Scars. Her jazz musical styling along with her penchant for creative costuming set her apart from her LadyBrit contemporaries (I’m looking at you, Duffy and Amy Winehouse).
I was really impressed most recently when she performed a live, stripped down, and somewhat mournful version of Sexy Chick, David Guetta’s dance-pop tune featuring Akon.
December will see the release of Faith’s third single, the title track to this formidable album.
